Panchakarma is the core strength of Ayurveda. According to Ayurveda, treatment of any disease is divided into two parts Shodhana and Shamana. Shodhana stands for five Purificatory Therapies meant for deep level cleansing of the body called Panchakarma.
These are as follows Vamana (Therapeutic emesis), Virechana(Therapeutic purgation), Basti (Therapeutic enema - oil & decoction based), Nasya (Therapeutic nasal medications) and Raktamokshan (Therapeutic blood letting).
Some diseases are chronic, recurrent and extensive in nature as they require deep level cleansing process through Panchakarma, to bring back equilibrium of deranged Tridoshas (Vata, Pitta, Kapha). Apart from this many more other supporting Procedures such as Shirodhara, Abhyanga, Patra Pottali Sweda, Janu basti etc. are practiced in the Department of Panchakarma to provide effective management for various diseases by following Ayurvedic principles.
